Welcome to the Research Group "Musical Heritage of Andalusia" (HUM 263)!
We are a passionate team comprised of researchers, university lecturers, professional musicians, and postgraduate students. Our common goal is to explore, analyze, and perform the rich musical heritage of Andalusia and the Ibero-American countries.
From the early musical traditions of the Mediterranean to the contemporary music scene, our Research Group "Musical Heritage of Andalusia" (HUM 263) delves into a wide spectrum of studies. We explore melodies from antiquity, including influences from Mesopotamia, and delve into the richness of the music of al-Andalus and the Nasrid Kingdom of Granada. We also research musical creation in audiovisual media and its impact in the digital age. We are passionate about unraveling the music found in the Spanish press, delving into aspects such as music criticism and reception, advertising and the music market, as well as gender representation in specialized magazines and sheet music supplements.
Our work goes beyond theoretical analysis. We are committed to musical interpretation and the recovery of musical practices in civic-academic ceremonies and processions at the University of Granada. To this end, we also focus on liturgical music, both in the Andalusian Holy Week and in funeral rituals, exploring its development within the compositional context of the 20th century. We dedicate ourselves to studying musical exchanges between Andalusia and Latin America, focusing on Traditional Popular Music, dances, and flamenco.
In summary, our group encompasses a wide range of research areas that reflect the richness and diversity of Andalusian musical heritage. We strive to connect musical legacy with contemporary life, promoting a deeper understanding and appreciation of our cultural identity through music.
